Fake Barrister Arrested

Claude Cambell, a fake barrister has been arrested for obtaining over four hundred thousand leones from one Daniel Gbembo, in the pretext that he is the head of the Chamber at Cambell Street back of Mende Church and he has goods for sale.

According to the witness, Daniel Gbembo testified in court that the accused person identified himself as the head of the chamber situated at Cambell Street, back of Mende Church in Freetown and he is the one that pays all the junior lawyers in the chamber. He further told the court that he requested for the accused to be his lawyer and the accused responded in the affirmative. The following day, he added that the accused met him in his shop and told him that he had one of his clients who wanted to travel to Canada and had building materials for sale, but he would like to connect them which he agreed.

He said they started cooperating and the first supply was 2,400 bags of cement, and the second supply was 5-ton iron rods, 1000 hardboards, and another item. He also said the accused asked him for a receipt, and he gave him, but his signature was attached to the Esq Logo. He continued by saying that one month later, CID officers came to his shop and informed him of the stolen goods he had received from the accused person. He further testified in court that he then called the accused person on the phone, but the accused person told him that there was no need to panic and that he would send his lawyers to settle the matter. He said, since then, he has been in search of the accused person. He told the court that, after a few weeks the accused was arrested.

However, Magistrate Santigie Bangura granted bail to the accused in the sum of Le400, 000 and two sureties and the matter was adjourned to the 16th July 2024.
