IWPG and AkshayaShakti Welfare Association Showcases International Peace Through Art
The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 5, led by Regional Director Sujin Park, and the Indian AkshayaShakti Welfare Association came together to co-host the “Earth Day Peace Art Project” in Maharashtra. This event marked the first collaborative initiative between the two organizations since the signing of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signaling a new model for international peace cooperation through art and culture. Under the banner “Together for Peace and a Better Earth: Countdown to 2030,” the project emphasized the urgency of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with just five years remaining until the 2030 deadline. A major highlight of the event was a 120-meter Peace Canvas Drawing performance. A total of 80 participants—including local artists, students, and citizens—collaboratively completed the expansive artwork within just 40 minutes. The effort earned official recognition from Asia World Records, reinforcing the project’s impact and scale. Held on Earth Day, the event embodied the spirit of citizen-driven peacebuilding, raising awareness for sustainability and global unity. It demonstrated the tangible outcomes of IWPG’s international cooperation, using creativity as a medium to foster peace. Mini Suboth, representative of the AkshayaShakti Welfare Association, announced that the completed canvas would be divided into 1.5-meter segments and donated to 80 schools. “We hope that children who view the artwork will absorb its message of peace and be inspired toward transformation in their own lives,” she shared. Sujin Park emphasized the project’s broader significance: “This is not just an art project—it’s the starting point for practical international peace solidarity. IWPG will continue to create more opportunities for collaboration through its global network.” IWPG is a globally recognized women’s NGO with consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and affiliation with the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC). Headquartered in South Korea, IWPG operates 115 branches and has members in 122 countries, working alongside 808 partner organizations across 68 countries. Committed to realizing sustainable world peace, IWPG promotes a culture of peace through initiatives such as the International Loving-Peace Art Competition, peace education for women, and advocacy for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
