On Monday 18th September 2023, at the Magistrate Court number 1 on Pademba Road in Freetown, Magistrate Mark Ngegba adjourned a matter for further prosecution of five accused persons.

The accused persons, Rtd Captain Sam Milton Bangura, Morlai Bai Shebura Kamara, Rtd Major Alimamy O Kamara, Saccoh Kamara and Rtd Major Mathew Sorie Kamara, were arraigned on two count charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and operating a private security service without valid license.

According to the charge on count one, the accused persons on Wednesday 7th June 2023, at Ferry Terminal, Kissy, Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime, to wit: operating a private security service without license. While count two added that the accused persons on the same date and place, were found operating a private security service by the name of Expandable, without valid license.

Joan Bull, a Police Prosecutor on the matter, made an appeal for adjournment, as they were unable to come with a projector to display the evidence in court. Her appeal was granted by Magistrate Mark Ngegba.

Joseph F. Kamara Esq. (JFK) lawyer for the defendants, reminded the Magistrate that he had applied for bail from July 2023 to date for his clients, and his application has still not been accepted. He then re-applied for bail for the five accused persons in the dock, adding that he has been coming to court severally, adding that the said excuse by the Prosecution was a persistent request.

He told the Court that the five accused persons had served the nation timelessly and are family men, furthering that they should be treated like human beings, because they have been in police custody for months now.

The matter was adjourned to Thursday 21 September 2023 for further hearing.
