Plan to Kill the Director of Law School Backfires

Three men have been dragged to court for allegedly planning to assassinate the Director at the Sierra Leone Law School, Doctor Abu Bakarr Bangura through the help of an herbalist.

The three accused persons are: Kemoh Bangura, Alimamy Bangura and Pa Alimamy Kargbo, have made their first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba road court No.2 in Freetown on allegation of soliciting to murder contrary to section 4 of the offences against the person Act 1816.

According to the particulars of offence, on Saturday 20th April 2024 at Rokon Village, Magbina Section, Bake Loko Chiefdom Port Loko District in the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the accused persons were allegedly soliciting the services of herbalist to kill Doctor Abu Bakarr Bangura.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused persons, no plea taken.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh led prosecution witness number one, Dr. Abu Bakarr Bangura, a Director at the Sierra Leone law school, who recognized the accused persons and recalled on the 20th April 2024 when he received a call from one Alusine Kamara who happen to be an herbalist. He went on to say that, the said Alusine Kamara told him that the accused persons brought him to his shrine to be killed. He further testified in court that, he then enquire from Alusine to know the persons that want him dead. He further testified in court that, the herbalist informed him that the three accused persons want him dead. According to the witness, the herbalist told him that the three accused persons had gone to Kamakuye to collect certain materials to be buried for ritual, and he further narrated that he asked the said Alusine for his location and he told him that he is residing in Port Loko. Dr. Abu Bakarr Bangura also told the court that, he met with the herbalist who explained everything to him and added that, he was to be killed on Sunday but the accused persons will meet with him on Saturday to seal the arrangement.  Dr. Bangura further revealed that, he pleaded with the herbalist to obtain recording of the meeting with the accused persons on Saturday.  The witness further stated that on the Sunday morning the herbalist produced a recording to him of the conversation he had with the first accused persons.

Upon hearing the audio recordings, the Director at Law School testified further that he immediately ran to Freetown and reported the matter to police.

Meanwhile Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused persons to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned for further hearings.
