SWASAL Engages New NSA Boss

The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) late last week paid a courtesy visit to the new Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq at his Signal Hill Road office. The idea was to establish collaboration with the NSA under its new leader.

Speaking at the meeting, Sahr Moris Jr., the President of SWASAL, started off by congratulating Dr. Abdulai on becoming the new NSA Boss.

“The purpose of our visit is to present SWASAL as a sports body that is ready to work with the NSA for the development of sports in Sierra Leone. As an institution that has the obligation to report on various sporting activities, it is important for both SWASAL and NSA to have establish a synergy for the development and promotion of sports in the country,” Moris said.

Responding, Dr. Abdulai said that the media is a pivotal institution in society. “The media, as an agent of change, does not only report happenings but also inform people about the activities in a society.

“As journalists, you should hold the NSA to account. You can criticise us, but you need to do it with facts. We want to work with SWASAL, dance with you, attend your programmes etc. In doing this, SWASAL has the obligation to criticise us where we go wrong and report the stories to inform the public about our activities,” he said.

By way of ending, Dr. Abdulai said over the years, some sports journalists have created more problems in sports rather than identifying solutions to the issues.

“But we are looking forward to working with SWASAL,” he surmised.
