Sierra Hope Fertility Clinic Delivers First IVF Baby
Sierra Hope Clinic located in the Western Rural Peninsula at John Obey on Monday 8th April 2024, celebrated its first baby (girl) delivered through the aid of technology otherwise known as IVF.
Lucinda Kamara, mother of the first IVF baby from Sierra Rutile said she was overwhelmed with joy after having had several miscarriages in the past and having to travel to Ghana to undertake such exercise at a high cost which also proved un successful.
Three times she travelled to Ghana for IVF unsuccessfully and spent a huge sum of money with her husband who also at one time had to travel with her.
She told journalists that her first IVF treatment pregnancy was fruitless and was losing hope already over the prospect of having a child, the second again, (twins) wasted after having spent thousands of USD.
“I have done all I could as a woman to have a child, but my dream came true with the operations of the Sierra- Hope Fertility Clinic for which I say a big thank you to God and the founder of the clinic.
After having spent so much money, Lucinda can now boast of a bouncing bay girl, the reason she called on other women suffering from infertility to make use of the clinic which is now at their door step will less cost and challenges.
Addressing the press, Jestina Jalloh-jamboria stated that the process started on 8th August last year lasted until 8th April when the baby was delivered.
Jestina Jalloh- jamboria explained that Invitro- fertilization is a process whereby a woman is put on medication to produce eggs which is later processed to produce sperm donated by the male. She said the medication depends on the type of sperm the woman or man produces and the length of time it takes.
IVF has been around for while, but this is the first time Sierra Leone is benefiting from such a facility and this could not have come at a better time when sometimes someone or a couple has to travel abroad to access such a facility at exorbitant cost. She further explained that during such process, they as well undertake series of IVF treatments and ensure that the eggs of the female and spermatogenesis are both fully fit.
This comes with huge advantage for couples who had to travel abroad to access such a facility and who now have the facility at their door step.
The Clinic has a storage facility for sperm and eggs, the reason she called on males who wish to donate their sperm to do so, as there is a safe place to store them until they are ready.
She said the facility has cases they are set to deliver in the coming weeks and all will be successful.
Medical Superintendent of the Sierra -Hope Fertility Clinic, Komba Kaimomdo Sosiama explained to journalists that apart from IVF, they also have a standard laboratory Unit and a branch at Jui on a cost recovery basis. He said affordability and accommodation makes is cheaper compared to those having to travel abroad to undertake IVF.
At the Jui branch, the services they offer include, hypertensive vaccination, adding that it is a standard place for medical attention.
Dr Sosiama added that they have a standard gynecologist and a perfect surgical team that is ready to deliver the best treatment to Sierra Leoneans and other nationals.
This is why he is calling on all to make use of the facility which is now at their door step and avoid the difficulties of having to travel abroad.
