As RAIC acts swiftly…
ECSL in Hot Waters
Judging by the letter from the Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) dated 24th August 2023, directing that the Commission respond to the review sought by the complainant, Augustine S. Marrah Esq, within 7 days of receipt of the letter.
The implication of this directive, which is in line with the provisions of sections 43 (a) and (b), 44 and 45 of the RAIC Act of 2013, is that the ECSL has to comply, or it will mean a deliberate violation of the Act by a Public Institution and official, which will be an offense. It will further be an outstanding example of a deliberate rejection of the dictates of an Act passed by Parliament to ensure transparency in the work of public institutions.
