Eloquent speeches and empty promises… KKY Exposed
Kandeh Yumkella popularly known as KKY, a prominent energy expert and former presidential candidate of the National Grand Coalition (NGC), now serving as the Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordination Group, has come under criticism for his perceived inability to provide effective solutions to the country’s energy sector challenges.Despite his expertise and leadership, concerns have been raised about the lack of progress in addressing the pressing issues within the sector. “To those who insist that I should believe in Kandeh Yumkella’s (KKY) leadership and oratory skills, my response remains unchanged: I refuse to be swayed by eloquent speeches and empty promises. My stance is not driven by political bias, bad faith, or rhetoric—it is grounded in personal experience,” said Arthur E. Pearce, stating further that, for years, he has watched KKY articulate grand visions, yet I have seen little or no tangible results. He continued by stating that, since 2013 to 2023, his speeches have remained just that—speeches. “Promises have been made, yet they remain unfulfilled. Until I see real progress, I will not allow myself to be pressured into believing otherwise,” he added. He expressed further that he was trained to hold leaders accountable, and he will continue to do so without fear or intimidation. “Accountability does not equate to hatred or disrespect; it is a civic duty to demand results, not just explanations or excuses. As I write this, I sit in total darkness, my phone barely charged by a power bank. I debate whether to buy fuel for my generator just to iron clothes for work and school—an unnecessary expense in any functioning system. The unreliable electricity supply has forced me to spend more on food, as cooking in bulk is no longer an option without the risk of spoilage,” he emphasized. He continued that for someone so skilled in persuasive rhetoric, KKY has yet to deliver meaningful change. And now, he has been entrusted with managing our energy sector? I remain forever in doubt. As the Krio saying goes, “If a snake misses biting you once, the next time you see a worm, you run.” Now, he has promised to set up a forensics team to investigate the numerous fire incidents in the country, including the fire outbreak at Hon. Abdul Kargbo’s house. Will this be another empty promise? Time will tell. This is my honest take, and I hope it ends the debate. He cautioned that Kandeh Yumkella must understand that his past credentials—whether from the UN or anywhere else—do not matter to Sierra Leoneans. “What we care about is results. Leadership is not about self-proclaimed expertise or impressive speeches. We need tangible improvements, not just words without action,” he concluded.
