Statistician General Engages UN Under Secretary
On the sidelines of the 56th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission meeting in New York, Sierra Leone’s Statistician General, Andrew Bob Johnny, has met with the UN Under Secretary for Economic and Social Affairs, Li Junhua. The meeting aimed to introduce newly elected Bureau members, including Mr. Johnny, to the Under Secretary, and discuss administrative matters for the smooth operation of the Bureau. The Statistical Commission comprises 24 member countries, elected by the United Nations Economic and Social Council for a four-year term. However, Sierra Leone will serve a two-year term from 2025 to 2027 due to geographical arrangements. Mr. Johnny’s election as Rapporteur of the Commission is a significant development, and he will play an active role in the intersession period, consulting and informing countries and international organizations. As the CEO of Statistics Sierra Leone and Rapporteur of the Commission, Mr. Johnny will provide an overview of the wrap-up session of this year’s Statistical Commission meeting in New York. This meeting highlights Sierra Leone’s growing involvement in international statistical cooperation and development.
