Moyamba MP Blasts Energy Ministry

By Abdul Rahman Bah

Hon. Ben Alpha Mansaray, Member of Parliament for Moyamba District and Deputy Spokesman for the APC Parliamentary Group, has called for the resignation of the Ministry of Energy, citing the worsening electricity crisis in the country. Speaking at the APC Parliamentary Monthly Press Conference held at the party’s headquarters in Freetown on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, he expressed frustration over frequent and prolonged power outages, which he claimed were worse than under the previous government. Hon. Mansaray reminded the public that when the APC left office in 2018, the country had a stable 24-hour electricity supply, but under the current administration, the situation has deteriorated significantly. Other APC lawmakers also voiced their concerns over the energy crisis. Hon. Mahmud Kamara, Hon. Aminata, and Opposition Whip Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara accused the government of failing to provide consistent electricity to Sierra Leoneans. Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara specifically criticized Karpowership, the floating power provider, arguing that it had failed to deliver the promised 60 MW of electricity to Freetown. The MPs also accused the government of neglecting local energy sources such as the Kingtom Power Plant and Black Hall Road Power Station, worsening the country’s electricity problems. The APC MPs urged the government to take immediate action to address the crisis or face continued public outcry.
