Opposition Chief Whip Blasts Govt

The Chief Whip of the main opposition APC party in parliament, Honourable Abdul Karim Kamara has condemned the ruling government over the high rates of inflation in the country.

He further alleged that political intimidation, unlawful killings, arbitrary arrests, starvation, inflation and corruption are prevalent in all sectors. He went on to say that, during the campaign periods, members of the ruling SLPP party enticed the citizens that there would be enough food on the table and poverty would take it permanent exit door.

“These statements on the other hand trapped many citizens to be convinced that their lives would be improved exponentially not knowing that it is a mere grandiloquence,” he alleged, disclosing further that, the administration has added more sufferings on the masses with impunity.

However, Opposition Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara continues to illuminate on the burning issues the people are enduring. According to him, there are no tangible developments the current administration has implemented that helped to augment the livelihoods of the citizens.

Also, he emphasized that the country’s economy is in a precarious stage as many citizens are unable to secure their daily bread due to the deliberately effort of the government to remove subsidies on basic commodities. He succinctly analyzed the different prices of the country’s staple diet.

“Today a bag of rice in Freetown is Le 989.00 and Kambia Town is Le 1000.00,” he said, arguing further that, the above prices are those areas that are bit closer to Freetown and he is worried about those communities that are far-fetched; Kailahun, Bomaru, Koindu, Rutile, Bonth, Kabala etc how a bag of rice would cost them.

Moreover, he informed that with this price increment there should be consideration on salary increments. He concluded by calling on the government to improve on the living standards of people living in the country.
