Over Controversial Deal… Diamond Brouhaha

Deputy Minister of Sports, Lawrence Mbayo, has accused Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, of interfering in an ongoing investigation involving a controversial diamond deal.

According to Mbayo, the Vice President allegedly intervened to secure the release of suspects detained by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He claimed the Vice President justified his actions by stating that the father of one of the suspects had previously helped him by paying his school fees.

“The suspects were arrested and taken to CID headquarters, but they were released on bail due to the Vice President’s intervention,” Mbayo alleged. He further stated that this is not the first time the Vice President has been accused of meddling in police investigations, particularly in cases involving diamonds.

In a social media post, Mbayo expressed frustration over what he described as repeated interference by the Vice President, which he claims has hindered justice.

“I’ve tried all possible means to stop the Vice President from interfering, but to no avail. The people of Sierra Leone need to know how we have suffered because of this,” he said.

Mbayo also asserted that the diamond in question belongs to him and his associates. He called on the country’s leadership to intervene and ensure justice is served.

The Deputy Minister announced plans to hold a press conference soon to provide further details about the diamond transaction and the alleged interference.

“I am doing this video for the people of Sierra Leone to know the truth,” he stated.
