Members of the NGC party have implicated the ruling SLPP party of being in contravention of Clause 12 of their alliance leading to the 2023 Presidential Election.
“NGC has not been recognized by the SLPP party,” claimed former Deputy Leader of NGC in the 5th Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
In an exclusive interview with this medium, Honourable Foday Mario Kamara highlighted some of the violations of Clause 12 of their alliance with the ruling SLPP party by mentioning that the SLPP party fails to appoint their members to Ministerial positions, Ambassadorial positions, Members of Board of Directors and so on. Based on this, he stated that, some of their members have felt dissatisfied whilst majority are optimistic that the SLPP party will fulfil its agreement in the alliance.
“This has brought split in the NGC party,” Honourable Mario stated, adding by calling on all NGC members and supporters to continue to keep the peace and remain law-abiding. He continued by appealing to their supporters and members to stand united and refrain from any act that will continue to intensify the division within the party. He further assured their members and supporters that, it is only when they are united they will be able to win the forthcoming elections. He noted that all of them have invested a lot in the NGC party but with patience and love they will be able to conquer. He reminded their membership and supporters that a house divided by itself cannot stand, therefore, he has called on every member of NGC to remain law-abiding.
Honourable Foday Mario Kamara also registered his frustrations over the none compliance of members of the SLPP party on their alliance leading to the 2023 elections. He emphasized that, despite being an alliance, NGC has not been recognized as a full partner by the SLPP party, leading to their decision to exit their alliance with the SLPP party. He disclosed that, on the 8th March 2024, their meeting was disrupted by internal opposition and police interference, adding by describing the act as undermining their democratic right to assemble.
“I am concerned about the unwarranted aggressive police actions,” he said, stating further by appealing to all members of the NGC party whether pro or anti-alliance, to find a common ground and work together to revive and strengthen their party.
“We have invested too much in our party to let it die,” he stated, adding by sending a message of unity, forgiveness, and hope to all NGC supporters and members, disclosing that, he shared similar message at the North America General Membership Meeting of NGC on March 3, 2024, by encouraging them to forgive and move forward as a family.
