Dr. Musa Kpaka is Ready to Champion the Feed Salone Project

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Musa Kpaka has demonstrated willingness and readiness to champion His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio ‘Feed Salone Project’ in his second term in office.

Dr. Kpaka made this statement while explaining the activities of his ministry to Journalists on Tuesday 10th October 2023 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room at Tower Hill in Freetown. He continued by stating that the Ministry of Agriculture is on high gear to actualize His Excellency President Bio’s vision in the ‘Feed Salone Project’. He further underscored that the Free Quality Education project is praiseworthy in creating more opportunities for school children to gain admission in schools without paying school fees or any charges, adding that, same will be replicated in the Feed Salone project that seeks to ensure food sustainability in the country without relying on imported foods.

He recalled that, during the Corona Virus and the Russian and Ukrain war the food chain was blocked and there was serious hike in the cost of food commodities that led government to spend colossal money in meeting the demands in the market to ameliorate the suffering of the masses.  Therefore, he stated that, the Feed Salone project is a game changer in ensuring the availability of food throughout the country and at low cost. He disclosed that, soil experts have described our soil in the country as very fertile and can help in boosting productivity in no time, adding as a visionary leader, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio wasted no time but to find solace for the of Sierra Leone in the Feed Salone Project by growing our daily food than spending huge sum of money in importing food.

Dr. Kpaka added that, when he was Adviser to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, they were working on the agricultural sector but with a little focused.

‘’This time we will make sure that farmers are well equipped to do their work,’’ he said, stating further that, they will also provide jobs for the youth of this country especially in the Agricultural sector.

He said that the Feed Salone Project seeks to stop the perennial problem that citizens are facing with food availability in the country and also to boost the economy that will benefit the generation yet to unborn. Explaining further, he stated that, he has received the support of development partners in the project.  He added that, even the private sector has demonstrated willingness to support the project.
