Energy Minister Outlines Successes

The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay on Tuesday 3rd October 2023, at the Ministry of Information and Civil Education weekly Press briefing, has outlined successes made in the energy sector.
Alhaji Dr. Kanja Sesay said when they assumed the leadership of this country in 2018, they met the electricity at 16% and through their hard work and diligence service to this nation they were able to upgrade to 32%.
As a government, he said that their mandate is to provide affordable electricity supply to the nation; especially factories, hospitals, agencies etc. Despite the challenges faced with the Bombuna Hydroelectricity, he said that they were able to supply electricity to the nation. He further underscored when they came into office in 2018, they realized that the Karpowership was not fully operational and their bill was too expensive which was at 36 cent per kilo hour, adding that, they succeeded in negotiating with Karpowership to lower their cost to 16.1 cent per kilo hour. Through that, he said that the government was able to save 18 billion dollars in two years.
Despite the current challenges in the sector, he assured that they will continue to supply electricity to the people of Sierra Leone at reasonable cost.
