Parliament Greenlights Nle 27.7 Billions 2026 National Budget

Parliament on Friday, 19 December 2025, passed into law the Appropriation Act, 2026, following an extended debate on the floor of the House.

The Bill, which was approved with amendments, provides the legal framework for government expenditure for the 2026 financial year and underscores the state’s commitment to strengthening economic management and improving service delivery.

The newly enacted law authorizes withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund to finance public services across the country throughout 2026. It is anchored on the theme, “Enhancing Domestic Revenue Mobilization to Sustain Economic

Development for Service Delivery,” reflecting the government’s focus on boosting domestic revenue as a foundation for long-term growth and fiscal stability.

Before its passage, the Bill underwent rigorous scrutiny at the committee stage under the Committee of Supply. Members of Parliament examined sectoral allocations, assessed spending priorities, and proposed amendments aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and alignment with national development objectives. The proposed changes were adopted ahead of the Bill’s final approval.

The total approved budget for the 2026 financial year stands at NLe 27,717,307,300, representing over twenty-seven billion Leones in planned government expenditure.

The allocation is expected to support key sectors of the economy, enhance public service delivery, and sustain ongoing development initiatives nationwide.

With the passage of the Appropriation Act, 2026, Parliament has fulfilled a core constitutional responsibility, paving the way for the Executive to implement its fiscal and development agenda for the year ahead.

The Act now provides the legal authority for full budget execution in 2026.
