Stats SL Presents Annual Work Plans for 2025

Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) Council and Executive Management convened on 25th January 2025 at Njala University Campus, Mokonde, to report on key achievements and challenges of 2024 and present Annual Work Plans for 2025. The gathering served as a platform for collaborative action towards enhancing institutional capacity, staff welfare, service delivery, and fostering efficient management and decision-making processes. In his opening remarks, the Statistician-General/CEO of Stats SL, Andrew Bob Johnny, who serves as the secretary of the council, underscored the need for council to be updated on management plans for the new year, hence the reason for the joint retreat. He specially thanked Prof. Bashiru Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, a member of Council, for his efforts in hosting the retreat. The Chairman of Council, Moses Williams who chaired the meeting appreciated all council members present for their unrelenting support during the past year. He emphasized that the meeting was meant to be an interactive and collaborative one for both Council and management. He encouraged frank discussions and conversations which will lead to a fruitful meeting. Among the many issues discussed during the divisional updates by directorates as they gave updates on their divisional activities were: the Decennial Population and Housing Census, the ongoing Sierra Leone Integrated Household Survey (SLIHS), The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) for which household listing is presently ongoing, the 50 X 2030 agricultural survey, and other key data collection exercises and statistical undertakings. The Harmonizing and Improving Statistics in West Africa (HISWA) Project Coordinator, Dr. Albert Kenneth Bangura-Will, gave an update on the successes of the project pinpointing the ongoing Stats SL HQ building project and the payment of insurance covers for field staff as critical wins. He expressed optimism for an extension of the project, the first phase of which ends in December 2025. In attendance and also making critical contributions were the Deputy Statistician General, Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh and Council Members representing the five administrative regions of Sierra Leone and other institutional council representatives. Stats SL treats with utmost seriousness all efforts towards coordinating, collecting, compiling, analyzing, and disseminating high-quality and timely data needed to assist in making informed decisions, formulating sound policies, implementing development programs, and monitoring the impact of development indicators.
