Gov’t Signs $50 Million Project with Saudi
The Deputy Minister of Finance 1 of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Madam Jeneba Kpaka Bangura, has signed the Hospital Project Agreement with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) for the construction of a Modern Referral Hospital worth a total of One Hundred and Eighty-seven Million Five Hundred Thousand Saudi Riyals (187.5 SAR), which is equivalent to Fifty Million United States Dollars ($50,000,000.00).
The soft loan agreement aims to build and equip a new 150-bed referral hospital close to the Airport in Lungi, in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District. The project is part of the Government’s plans to provide high-quality health and medical care services for the people of Sierra Leone.
The hospital, which is expected to be completed in 2025, will have units such as general surgery, with the necessary operating rooms, emergency wards, paediatrics, in-patient wards, obstetrics and gynaecology, nursery and technical and administrative support units, among others.
The Government of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, in May this year, identified the parcel of land in Lungi for the construction of the hospital to be named the ‘Riyadh Referral Hospital’. Upon completion, the hospital will be critical to the overall government priority to increase access to good health services, which is part of the Human Capital Development programme of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s Government.
