Ahead Of WCO-WCA Conference… NRA Introduces Uniforms For Customs Staff

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has unveiled new official uniforms for its Customs Services Department, led by the Commissioner- General, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, as part of preparations ahead of the upcoming World Customs Organization-West-Central African Region (WCO-WCA) expert meetings & conference scheduled from May 4th to 8th  at the Freetown International Conference Centre, Aberdeen, Freetown.

Speaking during the unveiling, the Commissioner General, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, described the uniforms as a strong symbol of discipline, unity, and institutional identity. This initiative reflects the Authority’s continued drive for professionalism and improved service delivery, as a well-presented workforce strengthens public confidence and supports revenue generation through improved compliance,’ she noted.

She further emphasized that the introduction of new and fashionable uniforms for Customs staff forms part of the broader institutional reforms aimed at modernising the Authority, strengthening internal cohesion, and enhancing public image. Mrs. Bangura also commended Customs Officers, stating that their dedication, resilience, and consistent commitment to the NRA’s mandate remain commendable and central to their success.

The unveiling brought together Customs staff who serve at key strategic locations, including the Gbalamuya border crossing point in Kambia, Jendema border in Pujehun, Queen Elizabeth II Quay, and the Freetown International Airport. These frontline officers remain central to revenue mobilization, border control, and management operations.

Speaking on behalf of Customs officers, Tennyson Bio, Commissioner of Customs Services Department at NRA, welcomed the initiative with visible appreciation. He described the uniforms as more than attire, but a symbol of pride, unity, and professionalism. He noted that it strengthens their identity in the field and enhances their daily interaction with the public.

The Commissioner of Customs, Tennyson Bio, added that the introduction of uniforms will improve staff visibility, reinforce institutional credibility, and deepen public trust in tax and customs administration. He further stated that the initiative aligns with efforts to project a coordinated and strong institutional presence ahead of the WCO-WCA conference.

As preparations intensify, the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to reform, effective revenue mobilization, and institutional excellence under the leadership of the Commissioner General, Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura.
