Be warned… Mpox is a Killer
By By Paul S. Dangha, BSc Microbiology, MLT (AMT), PT (ASCP)
Monkeypox is a viral disease that typically causes a range of symptoms, from mild to severe. While most cases resolve with supportive care, severe cases can be life-threatening and may lead to death due to complications such as:
Respiratory failure
Septic shock
Encephalitis (inflammation of the brain)
The risk of severe illness or death from Monkeypox can vary based on several factors, including:
Age: Young children and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.
Underlying health conditions: Pre-existing medical issues can increase vulnerability to complications.
Access to healthcare: Early diagnosis and effective treatment significantly improve outcomes.
It’s important to note that Monkeypox is generally a self-limiting disease, and the majority of people recover without the need for intensive medical intervention.
