Health Authorities Declare War on Mpox

To curb further spread, officials have strengthened entry screening protocols at airports and border crossings. Travelers are now subject to mandatory health declarations, temperature checks, medical evaluations, and testing upon arrival. Close monitoring is also in place for those who may have been exposed, with a standard 21-day follow-up for early detection of symptoms. Authorities are also restricting the importation of rodents and primates from endemic regions in Africa — a crucial step in preventing zoonotic transmission of the virus. Public health advisories emphasize the importance of personal hygiene, including frequent handwashing, avoiding facial contact, and proper respiratory etiquette. The public is urged to avoid close contact with infected individuals and to refrain from sharing bedding, towels, or clothing. Vaccination campaigns are underway, targeting high-risk populations such as healthcare workers and individuals with high-risk sexual behaviors. In addition, post-exposure vaccines are being administered to frontline workers and close contacts of confirmed cases. Healthcare providers are focused on supportive care, including rehydration and oxygen therapy for symptomatic patients. In more severe cases, antiviral drugs such as Tecovirimat, Brincidofovir, and Cidofovir are being deployed. Vaccinia Immune Globulin Intravenous (VIGIV) is also available for critical cases, offering an additional line of defense. Close contacts of confirmed cases are being notified and instructed to self-monitor for symptoms, with regular communication lines open to healthcare providers. Infected individuals and the public at large are encouraged to wear masks and practice good respiratory hygiene to reduce the chance of transmission. Officials stress that public cooperation is vital to bringing the outbreak under control. With a combination of vigilant surveillance, targeted prevention, and swift medical response, health authorities remain committed to protecting communities and halting the spread of monkeypox.
