SLPP in Dilemma
The ruling Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party and His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio are currently in dilemma to choose from the all-desirable candidates that have been identified as potential candidates that will contest for the SLPP flagbearer position.
So far, there are speculations that the current Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh together with Dr. Alie Kabba, Dr. David Sengeh, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq, Alhaji Musa Tarawally, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella and Andrew Jaiah Kaikai Esq are among the potential successors vying for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearer position in the 2028 Presidential Elections.
Among these contenders, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh stands out as a senior member of the SLPP and has been President Bio’s dependable Vice President since April 2018, making him a strong candidate for succession based on the party’s leadership structure.
Dr. Alie Kabba, known for his dedication to public service and leadership skills, enjoys a large following among party members and is considered a prominent figure within the SLPP.
Dr. David Sengeh, the current Chief Minister and a key player in educational reforms, is recognized for his work in technology and innovation, particularly emphasizing youth empowerment, which appeals to young voters across Sierra Leone.
Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., the current Commissioner of Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission, has gained praise for his anti-corruption efforts and no-nonsense governance approach, resonating with many Sierra Leoneans who seek transparency in government.
Alhaji Musa Tarawally brings extensive governance experience and a commitment to national development to the table, having served as Minister of Lands, Country Planning, and the Environment under the previous administration.
Dr. Kandeh Yumkella’s international experience and expertise in economic development from his tenure at UNIDO position him as a strong candidate for the SLPP’s flagbearer role.
Andrew Jaiah Kaikai Esq., with a background as Executive Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and former Chief Immigration Officer, adds legal expertise and military experience to the mix of potential candidates.
The SLPP faces a critical decision in selecting a candidate with vision, leadership qualities, integrity, and the ability to unite the party while appealing to diverse voters. The chosen flagbearer must collaborate effectively with fellow members and present clear strategies to address pressing issues like poverty, corruption, and infrastructure development.
As Sierra Leone looks towards its future under the new leadership post-President Bio’s term ending, choosing a capable successor becomes paramount for continued progress and prosperity in the country.
