Ecobank Is the Official Sponsor 2024 AFCON

Ecobank Sierra Leone has on Friday 21th January 2024, held a group wide watch party in applauding their efforts as the official lead sponsor of the 2024 African Cup of Nations.

Haroun Korjie Director of sport, commended the management of Ecobank for taking the lead as the official lead sponsor of this year’s AFCON. He further described the act as a very good venture in promoting soccer in Africa. Mr. Korjie disclosed further that, Ecobank has also supported the national team of Sierra Leone, Leone Stars.  He further stated that Ecobank is now well known in Africa and beyond. Mr. Korjie also described Ecobank as cooperative bank that believes institutions and nations. He added by calling on the people of Sierra Leone to continue to support their operations.

‘’Football is a well-known sport in the world and Ecobank sponsoring AFON is a laudable step in demonstrating their willingness in rendering selfless services to their customers,’’ he concluded.

The Vice President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Mr. Harold Nat Johnson tendered their apology for the darling Leone Stars for not been part of the Afcon 2024. He informed that the African Cup of Nations commenced in 1957 and only three countries participated, adding that Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia but today up to 24 teams across the Africa continent are participating in the AFCON. He commended Ecobank for being the official lead sponsor of this year’s AFCON. Mr. Johnson further stated that Ecobank is a household name in Sierra Leone and they have supported many activities in Sierra Leone include sporting activities. He added that Sierra Leone only made four appearances in the African Cup of Nations in 1994, 1996, 2022. Mr. Johnson is optimistic that in the next AFCON, Sierra Leone will qualify in participating for the African title.

On behalf of the bank, the Managing Director of Ecobank, Mr. Sebastian Ashong Katai said that Ecobank is proud to be part of the 2024 African Nations Cup and they are committed in supporting the development of sport.
