For alleged anti-party activities…

APC Summons Mohamed Bangura & Co

By Edwina Sia Janga

According to a released issued by the main opposition party, they are summoning Hon. Mohamed Bangura and Hon Ayodele Thompson, to appear before a Disciplinary Committee in respect of their defiance of the directive of the party’s Highest Decision making body (the National Advisory Council – NAC), which demanded that all elected members of the party to the different elected positions should boycott all governance matters of the ruling SLPP government. According to the release issued on Friday, the two elected MPs have will be meeting with an eleven-man Disciplinary Committee.

It could be recalled that after the Elections of June 24th 2023, the APC issued a release indicating their unwillingness to take up any seat in Parliament and Councils across the country, and directed their members not to participate in any governance matters until their demands are met. Unfortunately, Hon. Mohamed Bangura dn Hon. Ayodele Thompson both disregarded the decision of the party and took up seats in Parliament. This had angered the party, which looked at their actions as betrayal and has instituted a disciplinary committee to look into the matter. The said Committee is said to be constituted by 11 members to look into the matter.

According to Hon. Mohamed Bangura, the said NAC is not properly constituted to be recognised and that a few people constituted the NAC, leaving out the other members. It is not known whether the two elected MPs will honour the invitation of the said Committee, and what action the party will take if they refuse to honour the invitation. According to Hon. Mohamed Bangura, the said NAC was not fully constituted to direct them not to take their seats in Parliament, adding that a few people took the decision and no quorum was met.

Many political analysts are of the view that this open challenge is just an indication of the problems in the party. Supporters and Sierra Leoneans are waiting to see the outcome of this engagement, and should the MPs fail to heed the invitation of the NAC, what will be their fate and their position in Parliament, as Hon. Mohamed Bangura has categorically stated that he is in Parliament to represent his constituents that voted for him.
