By Abdul Rahman Bah
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, is set to present the Government’s FY2026 Budget and Statement of Economic and Financial Policies to Parliament on Friday, 28 November 2025, marking one of the most anticipated national events in the country’s fiscal calendar.
The budget presentation will take place in the Chamber of Parliament at 10:00 a.m., where lawmakers, senior government officials, international partners and members of the public are expected to witness the live delivery of the Government’s financial roadmap for the year 2026.
The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that Cabinet Ministers and their Deputies, Vote Controllers, Heads of Departments, Agencies and State-Owned Enterprises, as well as development partners and invited members of the public, have all been formally invited to attend the sitting. To ensure orderliness and the smooth flow of proceedings, guests are expected to be seated by 9:30 am
The FY2026 Budget is widely expected to outline government priorities in key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment and economic recovery, especially as the country continues efforts to strengthen macroeconomic stability and improve service delivery. Analysts believe the statement will also address tax reforms, domestic revenue mobilization, debt management, and measures aimed at boosting private sector growth.
Traditionally, the annual budget presentation offers a clear picture of how government plans to allocate national resources and respond to current economic challenges. It also serves as a platform for the Finance Minister to explain policy directions, projected revenues, expected expenditures, and strategic investments for national development.
The presentation will be followed by parliamentary debates, committee reviews and eventual approvals, as lawmakers scrutinize the proposals to ensure transparency, accountability and alignment with national development goals.
The FY2026 Budget is expected to set the tone for Sierra Leone’s economic direction in the coming year and shape public sector planning, business expectations, and development partner engagements.
