Magistrate Remands Four For Robbery with Aggravation

Abubakarr Sesay, Alpha Kamara, Dauda Kelfala Sesay and Abubakarr Kabia on Thursday 9 October 2025 made their first appearance before the Principal Magistrate of the Freetown Magistrate court No.1, Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah, for allegedly robbing  two Indian nationals of gold and assorted properties valued over eight hundred thousand new Leones.

The defendants were arraigned before the court on ten count charges of conspiracy, contrary to law, and robbery with aggravation, contrary to section 23(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916 as repeal and replaced by section 1 of the schedule of the death penalty Act 2022 Act No.6 of 2022.

The indictment states that the defendants, between 1 and 31 May 2025 at Magburaka town conspired together to commit a crime, to wit: robbery with aggravation.

The indictment further states that the defendants on the same date, being armed with pistol, robbed Mukesh Ray the sum of thirty thousand Indian Rupees, equivalent to eight thousand, three hundred and ten New Leones, thirty thousand dollars, equivalent to seven hundred and twenty three thousand New Leones, quantity of gold, six hundred and sixty five Euro, equivalent to sixteen thousand, seven hundred and fifty eight New Leones and other valuable items, all valued at eight hundred and fifty four thousand, two hundred and ninty-one New Leones, property of Mukesh Ray.

No plea was taken from the defendants after the charges were read and explained to them.

The defendants were unrepresented in court and so no bail application was made on their behalf. They were remanded in custody until 16 October 2025 for hearing.
