Chinese National Faces Fraudulent Conversion Case

Liv Jin Jie, a mechanic and Chinese national, on Tuesday 22 July 2025 made his first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road court no.1 for defrauding the complainant, Mohamed Chernor Koroma, over one hundred thousand dollars, money meant for purchasing two machines.
The accused is before the Court on a count charge of Fradulent conversion Contrary to Section 20 (1) (4) (b) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The indictment states that the accused on the 1st to 31st October 2024, in Freetown, fraudulently converted to his own use and benefit, the sum of one hundred and thirty six thousand, six hundred united States dollars, equivalent to three million one hundred and forty one thousand eight hundred new Leones, entrusted to him by Mohamed Chernor Koroma for the purpose of purchasing one rig drilling machine and stone crusher machine.
When the charge was read and explained to him through an interpreter, no plea was taken.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Kadie Taylor, sought for an adjournment, as the witnesses were absent in court .
The accused was remanded and the matter was adjourned to the 26 July 2025 for hearing.
