By Tamba Lebbie

Finda Diana Konomanyi, a prominent opposition politician and vocal advocate for unity within the All People’s Congress (APC), made a heartfelt and significant visit to her home district of Kono on Saturday, 28 June 2025. The visit marked the final leg of her nationwide peace tour, aimed at healing divisions and rallying support for party cohesion ahead of the 2028 elections. At a well-attended rally in Kono, former Resident Minister, Eastern Region and now Chairman of the Former Ministers of APC (FOMINA), Karamoh Kabba, hailed Diana as Kono’s “audacity of hope,” emphasising her unique role not only as a political leader, but also as a caring mother figure to the district. His praise underscored the deep connection and trust Diana commands within her community. Addressing the crowd in both Krio and the local Kono language, Diana Konomanyi openly asked for forgiveness from her supporters and the people of Kono. She acknowledged the mistakes made in the lead-up to the 2023 elections, a period that culminated in the APC’s defeat. Her humility struck a chord, reinforcing her message that unity and reconciliation are essential for future success. “Let us set aside our differences and work as one,” Diana urged. “Only together can we reclaim our strength and chart a victorious path for the APC in 2028.” She expressed profound gratitude to the party faithful in Kono and across the nation for their continued support, stressing that the APC remains the only party with a genuine commitment to the development of Kono and the country as a whole. Diana pointed to the party’s plans and projects that demonstrate this dedication, contrasting it with the challenges the district currently faces. A poignant moment came when she addressed the ongoing Koidu Holding saga, a controversy that has resulted in widespread job losses and diminished income for many in Kono’s capital, Koidu City. Diana expressed her disappointment and called on the Koidu Holding management to urgently reengage with the government in a dialogue to resolve the crisis and restore livelihoods. In a rallying call for unity, Diana implored all political stakeholders in Kono to put aside personal egos and divisions for the sake of peace, cohesion, and electoral victory. She particularly urged Dr. Samura Kamara and his supporters, who have been campaigning for electoral justice following the 2023 elections, to move beyond past grievances and join forces with the APC to ensure a strong and united front in 2028. The visit not only showcased Diana Konomanyi’s commitment to peace and reconciliation, but also reinvigorated APC supporters in Kono, sending a strong message of hope, forgiveness, and collective purpose. As the APC prepares for the next national elections, Diana’s peace tour may well be the catalyst that restores unity and strength within the party.
