Councilor Appears In Court For Abusive Language

Ibrahim Bangura, a councillor of Kenema district,vand Bamba Brima Moses, on Tuesday 1 July 2025 made their first appearance before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Pademba Road Court no. 5 for an alledged abusive language and malicious damage matter. They were  both standing trial before the court on six count charges ranging from Larceny, threatening to kill, Common assault, insulting conduct, malicious damage and abusive language, all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. The indictment states that Councilor Ibrahim Bangura and Bamba Brima Moses on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8 June 2025 at Hamilton junction in Freetown, did steal the sum of twenty five thousand new Leones from Abdul Koroma. The charge sheet furthered that both accused persons on the same dates  and place did use threatening language against the complainant, Abdul Koroma, to wit: “We go make sure say we kill you people them”. The charge sheet furthered that both accused persons unlawfully assaulted the complainant, Abdul Koroma, and also made use of insulting conduct against the complainant with intent to provoke him to commit a breach of the peace. The charge sheet also indicated that both accused persons maliciously damaged a concrete structure of the complainant, valued at fifteen thousand new Leones, and also used abusive language on the complainant, Abdul Koroma. After the charges were read and explained to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty of the offense.

The Prosecutor, A. M Koroma, sought for an adjournment to prepare the witnesses.

Defense Counsel Jesse Jengo made an application for bail on behalf of both accused persons.

They were each granted bail in the  sum of fifty thousand Leones and one surety.

The sureties should be resident in Freetown and should produce valid national identification card depicting their addresses in Freetown.

Bail to be approved by the Deputy assistant Registrar.

The Matter was adjourned to the 7th July 2025 for hearing.
