Thyroid Gland Maintains Body Temperature & Heart rate

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland located at the front of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple. It produces hormones, mainly thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which regulate metabolism, energy production, and growth.

The gland plays a key role in maintaining body temperature, heart rate, and overall metabolic balance.

Thyroid hormones, primarily thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), are produced by the thyroid gland and play a crucial role in regulating metabolism, growth, and development. The release of thyroid hormones is controlled by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland via the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

Low levels of thyroid hormones stimulate the release of TSH, which then triggers the thyroid to produce more hormones. Approximately 80% of circulating T4 is converted to T3, while the remaining 20% is either converted to reverse T3 (rT3), an inactive form, or remains unchanged as T4.
