ECOWAS Calls for Fair & Transparent Investigation
Members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the occasion marking the 64th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS that was held in Abuja, have called for fair and transparent investigation into the alleged attempted coup in Sierra Leone.
The 64th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)that was held on 10th December 2023 in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria under the Chairmanship of H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Chairperson of the Authority.
On Sierra Leone, Members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have strongly condemned the attempted coup d’état on 26th November 2023, that has led to the loss of lives and destruction of properties and have urged the judicial instances to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the events, with a view to identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Members of ECOWAS have also commended the signing of the “Agreement for National Unity” that emanated from the mediated dialogue between the Government and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party and have urged all parties and other stakeholders to implement the Agreement in good faith within the stipulated timeframe. Members of ECOWAS have pleaded to continue to support Sierra Leone. They further assured to facilitate the deployment of an ECOWAS Security Mission to Sierra Leone to help stabilize the country.
